Hero and Villain Reunite by Me

As Villain stood on the front stairs of Hero's apartment, she knew it was a bad idea. Even though Hero had said he would always be there for her, it had been before, before all the pain and trauma, before she had really become Villain. What good would it do if I ask for help? I have already terrorized him enough. This can only hurt both of us. Villain stood there waiting, seeing if she could bring herself to knock. This is what bad guys do. They hurt people and then need help when they’re hurt. It’s not like I have another option.         Bang. Bang. Bang. Villain lowered her hand and started shifting her weight back and forth, anxiously waiting. She knew she shouldn't be here but what other choice did she have? She was estranged from her parents, having hurt them years before, and had no friends.       The door opened a crack, as though it was hesitant to let her in. A head of black hair, the same color as hers, app...

Caraval by Stephanie Garber

I started this book with high hopes and Garber did not disappoint. It was a fast read that was well-written. The world was absolutely enchanting. I really enjoyed reading about the magical Caraval and Master Legend. I would totally want to enter one of these games. It seems so fun.  The universe enchanted me from the first page, pulling me in with the letters. I like the way Garber wrote her characters, giving them depth. She also included the element of romance, even though it wasn't the main genre. Garber seamlessly wrote a story that enchanted readers with the world and characters while  also giving them an adventure. ❝Whatever you've heard about Caraval, it doesn't compare to the reality. It's more than just a game or a performance. It's the closest you'll ever find to magic in this world.❞ This is a quote from an advanced reader's copy but it sums up the book perfectly. It was definitely more than a book. Garber used descriptive words that made it come...

The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald

The Great Gatsby has long been regarded as an American classic. When I decided to read it, I thought it would be an engaging read that would keep me on the edge of my seat. Instead, it took a turn to a view of the rich. Nick Carraway is the main character, and the narrator, who comes from a middle-class background where he was never poor but not as wealthy as the millionaires he lives next to. I had a few questions about this book that I'm not sure who to ask: 1. Does Nick ever go to work? 2. Does Gatsby really love Daisy or was he just in love with the idea of her? 3. Did Tom care about his mistress or not really? 4. What happened at the end? I was super confused when I read it I really did enjoy reading this book even though it took me time to get into it. I would recommend it to anyone into American classics, old literature, and socio-political commentary.
